Prezi    My first & second 'prezi ' in my life

The first "prezi": In Japan, Mobile Assisted Language Learning (MALL) practices are currently being developed at universities. Almost all the people in Japan own Web-enabled mobile phones. Furthermore, students are familiar with ICT devices and take in mobile technology into their own lifestyles. Enthusiastic discussion about a good use of mobile device is now taking place in the English language learning context.



The second "prezi": This is another presentation which I made for the peer teaching. The focus is encourage students to speak through authentic materials. The grammatical point is 'verb of perception.'



Why "prezi"?

"prezi" is a really creative tool. The best feature seems to be 'Zooming-in' and 'Zooming-out', which gives us a feeling such as falling down into a deep hole or leaping from a plane flying in the sky high. Therefore "prezi" can give students a big impact and a impressive feeling, which can help learners remember the content of the presentation clearly and longer afterwards.

How to use "prezi" to foster language learning.

It could be possible to make a good tool for language learning in class through "prezi". Because we can integrate every small material into one big presentation tool through "prezi", such as text, sound, video, image, and voice. That is, students can look text, watch the video or image, and listen to the sound or voice simultaneously. They can use their every sensory organ and learn English; watch the video, listen to English and speak in English. It could be possibly useful for acquiring English.

Limitations

"prezi"is basically a presentation tool and it can make a great effect on the introduction or a scaffold for a specific aspect of language. However, for exercise or more advanced learning, other means is necessary to be introduced to a classroom. In addition to that, we should pay attention to selecting suitable and attractive materials. In my opinion, the video of my second presentation 'what do you see?' is too long to focus on the grammatical point. Therefore, we need to edit the video according to a lesson plan, before adopting the video as a learning material. As a result, even if we use a breathtaking presentation tool like 'prezi', it will make no sense to use boring materials.





SMART Notebook


A collaborative learning and visually attractive tool. Students may become excited with this tool and engaged in the task eagerly. It can bring about the student-student talk and the teacher-student talk, and furthermore arises discussion among the students in class.




This is a simple desktop application, however  it is a collection of innovative resources. You can create some interactive, engaging and adaptable learning materials by such resources. You can chose resources to use, combine them and create your own activities. Any activities can be possible through your elaborate device. Moreover your material will ever be growing.

My inquiry into 'SMART Notebook' and 'Triprico' 

SMART Notebook

If we use it as a white board in class, it is very useful because we can make new pages as much as we like. That is to say, we can compare the previous pages with a new one. It is also equipped with lots of stationery, such as a pencil, colorful crayons, colorful felt-tip pens, and lots of images. However it might be a little disappointing that we can't embed videos. 


In case of brainstorming in a group, each group needs to use the SMARTNotebook. That can be sometimes infeasible because of  budgetary limitations. Therefore, the possibility of use may be limited to the teachers' explanation in classroom or small class activities. 


Triprico

That is a pack of many learning motive sources. However, unless we use them at a good tempo, the participants of the class may be bored with the lesson immediately. Teachers need to master the way of use and prepare fully for the lesson with the tool in advance.
